I got a chance to be a local in Vegas for the 1st time of my many trips to the sin city.
Hanging out with my KCAI homie Miguel Rodriguez and all the great folks at the Arts Factory and at Trifecta Gallery was great. Everyone was super helpful and eased my nerves on exhibiting my 1st all non-digital print show. Check out my artist page on the gallery site HERE with a ful list of my new work and details. Below are some images of the new pieces from the show. The shapes are all routed out wood and stencil painted with spray paint.I’ll post more pics of the show when they are edited.

I stopped DJing at Nara in August after a good two year stint. I am back at Nara now to feature my artwork for the month of December. My art will be hanging in the main restaurant, so when you come in for dinner or a late night drink take a lap around the place and you’ll be able to see the whole show.

POWER TOWER

Last week Nadia and I took a trip up to Omaha to DJ and art opening for my friend Leslie Duigiud. Her show POWER TOWER is open at the Bemis Underground gallery and was a cool sight to see.

At first glance of this glittery explosion of shapes and forms with water color drips, this looks like a girl’s tribute to a messed up sports or fashion fanatic. I wasn’t sure what to make of it exactly. I liked the use of paint on the wall and the triangle shapes growing out of the wall. But I wasn’t quite getting the apocalypse theme Leslie was telling me about.

When Leslie gave her artist talk on Saturday it all came together for me. Her interpretation of the apocalypse was through the eyes of people who don’t worship a heavenly being, but rather their earthly sports stars and fashion icons. This was pretty genius, I had never thought of that!

She depicts these “gods” in a state of disarray and dismay as if the end times caught them in the acts they are over paid to perform.

Tower of Power show

My old intern and style girl Leslie Duigiud is having a show called Tower of Power in Omaha this coming weekend at the Bemis Underground this coming weekend.
I will be playing a set at that opening and then the next day at the Omaha Urban Outfitters. Should be a wild weekend in Omaha hahaha

Plenty of Action, No Control

Myself and Miguel Rodriquez will be showing new work at the Paragraph gallery on he 20th of May. Miguel is a ceramic sculptor living and working in Las Vegas. I’ve been waiting for a while to put our collaboration into action and my dream of a giant size Angry Zebra chess piece is almost a reality.
Here is a sneak peek at some work in progress and below the pre-flyer for the show. Miguel will has a lot more up his sleeve so i’ll be posting pics when i get them. As for me i’m in the process of working on some new canvas prints and a SIKE letter installation…that’s all i can say for now….but stay tuned!

Where It’s At show pics

This last weekend was the closing reception for my show Where it’s At , in the small student gallery on the campus of the University of Central Missouri.

This show is about bringing some “urban mythos” to the campus through my street art inspired pieces. The title of the show has two pop culture references. The first is the saying: “It ain’t where you’re from it’s where you’re at” and more directly from the Beck song Where it’s At

The central influence for my art are my experiences growing up as a young kid in Brooklyn. Those times are long gone and I’ve owned up to the fact that after living in Missouri for 20+ years, you can still claim Brooklyn as home but can’t deny that Missouri is…”Where it’s At.” Kansas City is where I live and make my art so I this show I debuted the Missouri canvas boards with two different designs. One spray painted and the other with a wheat pasted collage.

You can get a sense of the rest of the exhibit through this slide show. I will be showing some of the pieces from this show in KC this year sometime so stay tuned.
