The shop will cater to the preppy with a touch of street edge …whatever that means…haha. I don’t know what brands they will be carrying just yet but they’ll have some new special Sikenomics shirts when they open.

Last week I visited Omaha to see Johnny Cupcakes give a 3 hour lecture on his business at Creighton University. I have to admit, to be a 27 yr old self-made millionaire you gotta be focused. This guy was intense. His speech was detailed and full of insight. Check out his post about the event on the Johnny Cupcakes Blog

I found a few similarities with his story and my own experiences. We both started our brand of school in 2000. Me from art school him from high school. We both worked at indie style shop in our towns and got noticed for wearing our gear. We both went on random tours with our music groups and my fave…we both used to slang merch outta the trunk of the car. Even had the same model car; a Camry. Imagine that!

I felt inspired by his talk and decided  to return to my roots and make more mini style packs to give out as promos. I figure people might be a lil less eager to toss candy, free stickers and buttons on the ground, since fliers usually litter the ground after a bar closes. I was happy to see that only one piece of candy was left over from last Saturday’s event at the FireFly. I had these passed out for the 1st time there and I hope this lil promotion leads to some extra web site traffic.

Be on the look out for these lil packs. Each one is a bit different and has some combination of artwork, sticker, button, candy, breath mint ( you know you need it) or random surprise. I’ve made about 100 or so for now but more will be out soon.

In other news I stopped by the “SEEN” screen printing place in Fairway yesterday to check out their full color printing.

This shirt caught my eye and I thought it would be a great example to show LUCID some printing techniques we could use on a future collaboration.

Cash Money T-rex is outtie 5000 G!

I tired the bison burger which is crazy lean compared to beef burgers and comes topped with some melony pepper sauce that is sweet when you taste it and has good spicy aftertaste.

Instead of my usual sweet potato fries i tried the truffle fries. Super greasy…super salty and totally tasty. The don’t photograph so well as you can see below but they are tasty.

We had an over eager waiter who wanted to make sure that we remembered one thing. “The food is FANTASTIC!” i kid you not..he must have shared this revelation at least 4 times while we sat. Don’t get me wrong, i do love the food but, be easy son, let US tell you the food is fantastic…how bout that?

The one thing i don’t understand is why they bring out the sauces to your table so early. Even before you get your waters or beers…there is a double dipping set up of sauces that is brought to you. This happens EVERY time and i have never asked why. Am i supposed to savor the flavors via my fingers before the fries arrive? Please Blanc people…let me in on the secret of the early sauce…haha.

This year’s winter pop up shop is a bit different than the one i did last year. Instead of taking over a blank space for three days i have teamed up with Spool and taken over one of her walls for three months. From now through February i’ll have select items in the shop. Gift items such a zipper bags, candles, greeting and postcards, button packs and scarves.

New shirts and hats will arrive in time for black Friday so don’t forget to shop local this holiday season!

Store hours are Monday thru Saturday from 12-8pm and Sundays by appointment only. 816-842-0228 is the shop line.

My old boss from the now closed Recycled Sound record store died in her home last night. For some details on her check out the Star article and the Wayward Pitch Blog story.

I worked at RS for about 4 years. The last years were tough times for the shop. MP3s were really starting to kill the record stores and Anne tried her best to keep the store going but it didn’t last. Working for her was like being part of the family. The store was her baby so she had to really trust you to let you into the inner circle and i was greatfull to be in and have such a cool job.

I was the hip hop buyer there for a time and i even was allowed to dj with new promo records in the store on Thursday evenings. I have to give it up to Anne for helping me get my start in the “kc scene”. I got to meet so many ppl and learn a lot about retail, the music business, and music in general. I don’t think i wouldn’t have stated DJing like i do now if it wasn’t for Anne. She even sold me my 1st pair of Numark turntables!

Anne was a huge supporter of the “scene” in all music aspects. Hip-hop was welcome in the shop and we had a great time doing instore shows with some great people such as: People Under the Stairs, Mix Master Mike, The X-ecutioners, and many more. She was always down to support the local music. Back then i was helping promote my friends CDs and i truly appreciated her extending herself and her business to help us showcase our music. ( The Guild, CES CRU, Human Cropcircles, Kid Called Computer and even Anti-crew )

I hadn’t talked to her a whole lot in the last few years but i’ll always remember her being someone who loved to have fun and include people in her world. Always sharing her love of music and being a true friend to many. Anne, you will be missed. I’ll always remember that you helped me get my start in djing and appreciating all genres of music and i thank you for that.

Rest in peace…
